Coming Soon 13th Cassie Pengear Mystery

cover of Cassie Pengear Mysteries 13 Murder at the Masquerade showing Cassie dressed as the Queen of Hearts in front of a staircaseThe 13th Cassie Pengear mystery, Murder at the Masquerade, will be coming out on October 15, 2024, just in time for Halloween. And as a Halloween treat, it will be on sale for $.99 until November 1. I’ll add the pre-order links here as I get them. I hope you enjoy it!

When Cassie Pengear’s cousin Milly invites her to a masquerade ball at the Melpomene Theatre, her first instinct is to say no. The last party Milly had invited her to ended in murder, and these tickets came from one of Milly’s gentlemen callers, never a good sign. But dressing up for a Halloween masquerade at a theater did sound fun, so she agrees. And the masquerade is fun, until someone discovers a body. With Inspector Burrows in charge, Cassie figures the case is in good hands and out of hers, until Milly drags them into investigating the murder at the masquerade.

A New Series

cover of L. A. Nisula's mystery novel Deliveries and a Dead Body showing Kate and Ada looking through a door at the bodyThe first book in my new series will be coming out later this month. Kate and Ada are getting their own spin-off series. Cassie isn’t going anywhere, but Kate and Ada stumbled over a body, so they’re getting the next book. Deliveries and a Dead Body will be out on September 20. It’s slowly going up for pre-order now at a special pre-order sale price of $.99. On Sept 24 it will go up to $4.99. I’ll start adding links as I get them, until then, here’s the summary of the book.

Ada Shepherd and her wife Kate Ferris were having a perfectly normal day making deliveries for their Mayfair tinkering and haberdashery shop until they reached the Mertons’ house. There, they found an empty house, an unlocked door, and a dead body in the middle of the entryway. To make the day even stranger, by the time Ada returned from looking for assistance with a policeman in tow, the body had disappeared and the house was filled with quite the normal number of people, all while Kate had been waiting on the front step. With no body, the police won’t investigate, leaving Kate and Ada with no choice but to take matters into their own hands if they want to find out what really happened.

Kate Ferris and Ada Shepherd are partners in life and in their business, a tinkering and haberdashery shop in Mayfair, London. Somehow this leads to them stumbling over bodies and other strange happenings. Join them as they solve mysteries in a steampunk version of Victorian London in this charming spin-off of L. A. Nisula’s Cassie Pengear Mysteries.

Cassie Pengear Book 9: Murder Near Slaughter

cover of Murder Near Slaughter

Yes, there is finally a Cassie Pengear book 9. It’s called Murder Near Slaughter and takes place in a village in the Cotswolds . It’s available for pre-order now and it will be released September 17, 2019. Since I’m planning on doing a sale on some of the older books later this fall and that probably won’t matter much to people following this blog, I decided that, instead of the usual $2.99 pre-order/release week sale price, I’m putting it on sale for $.99 until September 21, then it will go up to $4.99. More information and links below.

Cassie Pengear was expecting a relaxing holiday in a Cotswolds village near Lower Slaughter, staying in a cottage borrowed from a friend of her landlady. She was not expecting to spend most of her first day there trying to find someone to give them the key to the cottage. And she definitely wasn’t expecting to walk in the front door and find a body on the sitting room rug. Now the local police consider her and Mrs. Albright suspects, and the London man she was counting on turns out to be Inspector Wainwright. If she wants to clear their names, Cassie will have to solve the murder near Slaughter.

Mugs, Murder, and Mayfair out May 1

cassie mayfair draft3 copyI have the release date for Mugs, Murder, and Mayfair. It will be out on May 1, 2018 in ebook, and the print version to come soon after.  As I usually do, I’m having a pre-order/release week sale.  The ebook will be $2.99 instead of $4.99 until May 5th.  Pre-order links are below.  I’ll add more as I get them.

Cassie Pengear was expecting a quiet week helping her friends Kate and Ada inventory their Mayfair tinkering/haberdashery shop, with nothing more exciting to worry about than a shaving mug thrown through the window, hiding the evidence of a student prank, they assume. But then a body is found a few streets away, and the inspector in charge of the murder case begins to suspect Kate. Now Cassie must help her friend by finding the connections between mugs, murder, and Mayfair.

And a little bit of video I’ve been playing around with.

Sale Extended

cover for L. A. Nisula's Cassie Pengear Mysteries book 1,2,3

A quick update because I wanted to let you know that I’m going to be extending the sale on the Cassie Pengear Mysteries bundle.  There are a couple of advertising opportunities I wanted to take advantage of, so it will now be on sale until December 6th.

New Short Story

I’ve added a new short story to the site, A Case of Two Clerks.  You can read it here.  I’ve also added it to the end of Killing at the Carnival as a bonus story.  New downloads of the book should have the story in it, but I don’t have any control over whether or not retailers update previous copies (I know Amazon tends not to update old purchases), so if you want to download a copy with the new story, Smashwords is probably your best bet, and they have all formats, so it should work for everyone.  The print version with the story is making its way to retailers, so if you find broken links to the print version, that’s why.  I’ll try to get the links on the site fixed as soon as possible.  I hope you enjoy reading it!

The Death Downstairs

Cassie Pengear Mysteries book 7Here is your first look at the cover for the seventh Cassie Pengear mystery, The Death Downstairs.  It will be released on September 26, 2017, and as always, it will be on a pre-order release week sale, with a little difference.  I’m planning to put the bundle of the first three books on sale soon, and I figure most people reading this blog have already read those, so I wanted you to get a bit of a bargain too, so instead of the usual $2.99, the pre-order price will be $.99 until October 1.  I’ll post  links to the pre-order pages here and on the book’s page as they become available.

Here’s the backcover text of the book.

When Cassie Pengear’s landlady asks her to check the references of the new tenant downstairs, she expects it to be a simple matter of confirming what was provided. She did not expect it to lead to a dead body in the flat below, a series of thefts in the building, and mysterious events at a bank she’s done typing for. If Cassie wants to feel safe in her flat again, she’ll have to solve the death downstairs.

And the links I already have.
